The new Hawthorne Hills subdivision on the southern edge of Shelby is nearing the construction phase. Alan Hedegaard Homes, the developer of the project, expects the first homes to be available in late 2007. Please contact Alan Hedegaard at (712) 566-3304 or (402) 681-4413 for more information about Hawthorne Hills. You can also check out the Alan Hedegaard Homes web site at www.HedegaardHomes.com for home site and building information. All of Hedegaard Homes' homes in Shelby are designed and built to significantly exceed ENERGY STAR specifications and are individually tested to ensure that they meet or exceed the EPA's National Building Performance Rating System. This means that you will save up to $1,000/year compared to other similar non-ENERGY STAR homes. In addition, all of our homes feature highly-efficient CFL lighting. Your monthly bill for lighting will generally be 75% less than it would be with regular incandescent lighting. No other builders in the Southwest Iowa region are listed as ENERGY STAR builders by the EPA. For more details about ENERGY STAR homes, please visit www.IowaEnergyStar.comLot Plan for Hawthorne Hills

SHELBY -- Menards, a chain of home improvement stores in the Midwestern United States, is proposing to build a new manufacturing and distribution center here this year, putting to end the seven-month speculation of what business will locate along the interstate. The company will create 200 new jobs within three years and inject $32.7 million in capital investment into a 140-acre campus just south of Interstate 80 at the Shelby interchange.
