In October '09 the
Shelby Park Committee purchased the Early Head Start playground
equipment. The equipment was dismantled and is in
storage. A proposal was put together to add on to the EHS equipment,
which will result in a savings of over $15,000 for the renovation.
That savings is going to be put into a rubber based mulch that is
maintenance free and environmentally friendly.
In November '09, the Shelby Park
Committee was awarded a $4,000 grant from the Shelby
County Community Foundation.
In January of this year, the Shelby
Park Committee was awarded a $23,000 grant from the
Iowa West Foundation.
For the Spring and Summer of 2010, the
Committee has decided to organize a Shelby Cookbook.
The last Cookbook from Shelby is over 14 years old. We are looking
for your best recipes to include in the book. The Cookbooks should
be ready to go by May and will cost $20. All proceeds will go toward
the new playground equipment.
In addition to the cookbook, the Park Committee plans to be very
active in the Spring and Summer months. So, be on the lookout for
upcoming fundraising events.
All signs point to a summer ground breaking of the new
playground. We are still seeking donations for the final push for
funds. We are close, but not quite there yet. Your support is
appreciated. Our dream playground is within reach - all thanks to
you! |
